Happy Turducken Day

While other blogs are being lazy and taking a day or two off for Thanksgiving, this blog is still chugging along right through the holiday.

Why? Well, let’s just say it’s a two-minute walk to my parents’ house, as opposed to the six-hour drive it was last year, and since it’s just the three of us for the holidays this year, I’m not in a huge hurry this morning. I probably should be, though, since the HD will be flowing like gravy…

That’s just one thing for which I’m thankful today — football in high definition. One day, it will be mine, but until that day comes, I can still reflect on other things for which I’m thankful.

I’m thankful that I have a girlfriend this year. That doesn’t happen very often.

I’m thankful that Ben Roethlisberger and Marvel Smith will be returning to the Steelers’ lineup on Monday night, and I certainly hope Marvel does a better job than his replacement, Trai Essex, who may have been responsible for a few of Baltimore’s 85 sacks last Sunday.

I’m thankful that Steve Smith is having an MVP season, because someone has to get some yardage for the Panthers.

I’m thankful that Battlestar Galactica is on a cable network that knows what to do with it. If it were on CBS, that network would have ruined it, just like it’s starting to ruin Threshold now.

By that same token, I’m thankful for Carla Gugino’s breasts.

I’m thankful that my parents feed me once a week, because it saves me from my own wretched, wretched cooking.

I’m thankful that Jerome Bettis knows how to deliver a message.

I’m thankful that Terrell Owens’ suspension was upheld, because it means I no longer have a reason to type his name in this blog again.

I’m thankful that Todd Sauerbrun is keeping his mouth shut… wait, no, I’m not thankful for that at all. I generally enjoy making fun of him.

I’m thankful for smartphones that attract questions from curious fans in sports bars and let me write about games from anywhere.

I’m thankful for Renee and Angela, who may have dropped out of the news, but who have done wonders for this puny little web site’s traffic.

I’m thankful that I have other options for advertising on this blog, because I have a feeling I’m going to dump Google AdSense soon.

I’m thankful that the Patriots will have an uphill battle to get to the Super Bowl this year.

I’m thankful that Clinton Portis is here to entertain us.

But most of all, I’m thankful for you, dear blog readers, for stopping by here every week and helping me have some fun with this. Because if it’s not fun, why do it?

And now that I’ve gotten all that off my chest, I’m going to go clean myself up and take a walk down the street for turkey and HDTV, and I’ll probably have a thing or two to say about the games while I’m at it. Happy Thanksgiving. Enjoy the football, and try not to laugh too much at the Lions today.
